Producer Teddy Riley of Upcoming Michael Jackson Album Fires Back at Criticisms
Posted by Chad Webb on 12.12.2010

Teddy Riley, one of the key producers behind the first posthumous Michael Jackson album Michael, has struck back at the criticisms of Quincy Jones relating to the album's release.

Riley contributed 3 songs to the album, and says that the 77 year-old Jones' hearing is not good enough to determine whether or not it's actually Jackson on the album. Originally, Jones was quoted as saying that there is "no way ['Michael'] should be coming out". Jones was the man behind the classic Jackson albums Thriller and Off the Wall.

Riley responded that with this: "Look at his [Jones'] age. He can barely hear you talk. How the hell could he hear Michael? Anybody who says [it is not Jackson on the album], I do have a comeback, because you're not right. That's just the bottom line."

Riley also said it is "disappointing" that Jackson's family have also been critical of Michael, as they are set to be "reaping the benefits" of sales of the album. Last month, MJ's brother Randy contested the authenticity of the vocals, saying "some of the songs are him and some aren't".

Michael hits stores tomorrow, and features Dave Grohl, Lenny Kravitz, 50 Cent and Akon. Riley has stated that more previously unheard material from Jackson will be on the way.

I will not be buying this sham. If Jackson had wanted these songs to be heard, he would have released them, period.

Hey RSW. Do you think the savage media and the critics would have ever let Michael Jackson actually release a new album without crucifying him. I have heard the album and it is definitely not a sham.

By sham, I mean the customary album of throwaways and outtakes released after an artist's death. It's distasteful and nothing more than a shameless money grab.

To RSW (Guest)

This album is great. Who cares that Sony makes money? Everbody makes money, even when MJ was alive. It's all about the legacy. MJ did make music for the fans. Invincible was from 2001. MJ makes after that period lot's of new music. What's your problem and th emusic is great on Michael.

You don't burn unfinished Picasso, DaVinci, or Van Gogh paintings when you discover them long after they're dead just because they're not finished.

Art may be left unfinished but it still gives us a a perspective and glimpse into the vision and life of the Artist, and depriving the fans the art and creation that's made them happy in the past just because it isn't finished is what's wrong.
