She's sticking around...
Christina Aguilera has signed up for a third season of NBC's The Voice, which the network may launch in the fall instead of 2013.
That would put the show against Fox's The X Factor. Aguilera is the first of the four judges to re-up her contract, which is for $10 million, more than the X Factor judges earn. A source close to the show claims her contract was actually less than that.
She will tape shows from September to December. A spokesperson for NBC said there has been no decision about moving the show to the fall, but that it's under consideration. NBC hopes to bring back Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton as well. The spokesperson said: "We're really pleased with the entire cast. You look at [the] ratings and it's no accident."
The show has become NBC's highest-rated show outside of NFL broadcasts. The season two premiere had NBC's highest ratings for an entertainment show in six years. Monday's episode had the best ratings in that timeslot in nearly eight years, excluding the Olympics. After two episodes, The Voice is averaging higher ratings than this year's season of American Idol.
Monday's episode scored a 6.6 rating in the demographic and 17.7 million viewers; Sunday's scored a 16.3 rating and 36.7 million.
