Lana Del Rey Debuts At #2 On Billboard 200
Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.08.2012

Lana Del Rey's debut album Born to Die only managed to debut at #2 on the Billboard 200, as Adele is at #1 for the 19th non-consecutive week.

This is the highest debut for a female artist since Jackie Evancho's Dream With Me came in at #2 on July 2 of last year. Leonard Cohen had his personal best this week, as his album Old Ideas came in at #3. It's also his best sales week since Soundscan began tracking sales in 1991. 35% of sales came from physical albums sold through Internet retailers. In comparison, only 1% of Del Rey's sales came from Internet retailers. Meanwhile, 74% of Del Rey's sales were downloads, which were only 30% of Cohen's.

Adele, meanwhile, faces competition next week in the form of Van Halen's new album A Different Kind of Truth.

1. Adele - 21 (122,000)
2. Lana Del Rey - Born To Die (77,000)
3. Leonard Cohen - Old Ideas (41,000)
4. 2012 Grammy Nominees (34,000)
5. Kidz Bop 21 (30,000)
6. Drake - Take Care (30,000)
7. Tim McGraw - Emotional Traffic (29,000)
8. Fred Hammond - God, Love & Romance (26,000)
9. LMFAO - Sorry For Party Rocking (22,000)
10. Rihanna - Talk That Talk (22,000)

Outside of the top ten, Kelly Clarkson's Stronger jumps seven spots to #13 and Madonna's Celebration greatest hits album comes back to the chart at #24.
