She likes the association though...
Katy Perry told E! News that she will not be playing Freddie Mercury's girlfriend Mary Austen in the biopic about Mercury, which will star Sacha Baron Cohen. British tabloid The Mirror previously said she was hoping to get the role.
While at the Hollywood premiere of Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D, she said: "There's something about the internet that's sort of funny—it's that nothing is true on there. There's been no formal offer. Although I do like the association and I like the company because I think Sacha Baron Cohen is hilarious. I have to take a catnap first before I do anything."
Perry has been a fan of Queen for years, and even dressed as Mercury for her 24th birthday. Mercury died in 1991 at the age of 45 of AIDS-related pnuemonia. The biopic was announced in September of last year by producer Graham King.
Perry's only major acting credit is a voice role as Smurfette in The Smurfs. Harvey Weinstein has previously said he would like Perry to play Marilyn Monroe in a Broadway musical adaptation My Week With Marilyn.
