UPDATED: Will Adam Lambert Replace Randy Jackson On American Idol?
Posted by Joseph Lee on 07.09.2012

UPDATE: Adam Lambert has discussed the rumors than he is being considered to replace Randy Jackson at the judges' table on American Idol. Billboard reports that Lambert released the following statement about the rumor:

"Idol has an amazing history of introducing great musical talent, and I was very fortunate to have had the Idol stage play a big part in my career. IF Idol wants to talk to me about Judging, I'd be more than flattered to have that conversation."

ORIGINAL: E! News reports that Adam Lambert could be named as a new judge for the next season of American Idol. Lambert is of course a former Idol contestant.

A source said: "They have been talking about Adam for over a month. He personifies the show, and will be a popular choice right from the start. He knows what it's like to be on the receiving end of the judges' comments, he has a human touch, and they know they can't go wrong if they bring him on. He would be able to bring a unique perspective to the show. People love him."

E! News claims that Jennifer Lopez has no plans to return for a third season as a judge, while Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler may also not come back.

The source added: "Randy is great, but he's part of the old Idol. They want to keep the soul of the show but have a new look, and for that reason he may well not be part of the new line up."

A source close to Tyler says he isn't sure if he'll come back, and said: "All up in the air. We shall see."

One source say Fox will continue to try and change Lopez's mind about leaving. The source said: "I don't know if they can afford Jennifer, but they have let it be known that she has a guaranteed spot if she wants it. She appeals to everyone so the big bosses are in favor of keeping her on."

Producer Nigel Lythgoe says he would love to be on season 12, but "as of this moment in time, we are still in negotiations as we are with everybody. Everything is up in the air." Lythgoe's new series Opening Act will premiere tonight on E!. He added: "There will be changes for sure, but nothing that stops it from what it is, which is an out and out talent show."

Lythgoe also commented on the complaints that Lopez, Tyler and Jackson aren't as harsh as previous panels. He said: "People are saying they're too sweet and too nice, but once you've put somebody that you love in the top 10 and they're coming every week and being good, it's hard to critique. It's not like dancing, where you can say point your toes, spread your legs. It's more like, 'When you hit that top note, just smile.'"
