ORIGINAL: Mariah Carey has been officially named as a judge for American Idol. TMZ reports that FOX made the announcement that Carey is joining the show at the TV Critics Association Summer Press tour today in Beverly Hills, California.
Carey is believed to be making $12 million for her first year, the same number that Jennifer Lopez made in her first year on the show. Carey was previously rumored to be replacing Randy Jackson, who would then step back into a mentor position. It's unclear if that is the case or if she is filling one of the seats left open by Lopez and Steven Tyler.
Either way, there is at least one more spot left open, with Miley Cyrus and Adam Lambert both rumored to be in the running.
