Simon Cowell’s boy band has now sold more than Arctic Monkeys, High Flying Birds, Mumford and Sons and Kasabian combined...
The Sun reports that Simon Cowell's boy band One Direction has now sold 12 million records in less than a year, eclipsing combined sales numbers from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Arctic Monkeys, Mumford & Sons and Kasabian.
The sales numbers are partly due to the success from their single, "What Makes You Beautiful," which sold five million copies worldwide and three million in the United States.
Liam Payne commented on this success with, "We have an incredible team of people around us who have helped us achieve this. Above all we would like to thank our fans. We owe all our success to them."
One Direction became the first UK group to enter the US Billboard charts at number one with their debut album.
Kasabian's Tom Meighan called the boy band "five little dicks," and band member Zayn Malik was accused of "enciting Jihad" and "pimping Islam" to female fans by a US right wing blogger.
