How did they do?
NME reports that Metallica have released a cover of Deep Purple's "When A Blind Man Cries". You can hear the track below.
It was taken from a new Deep Purple tribute album called Re-Machined: A Tribute to Machine Head. It features bands like Iron Maiden, Chickenfoot and The Flaming Lips covering songs from the 1972 album Machine Head. There will also be several one-off collaborations involving Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith, ex-Guns N' Roses men Matt Sorum and Duff MacKagan, Def Leppard's Joe Elliott and Steve Vai.
It was put together in honor of Jon Lord, who died last month from a pulmonary embolism at the age of 71. Those who paid tribute to Lord after his death included Slash, Black Sabbath's Geezer Butler, Tom Morello, Jamie Cullum and Ewan McGregor.
Meanwhile, Metallica are working on the follow-up to the 2008 album Death Magnetic in San Francisco. They recently headlined this summer's Download Festival.
