NME reports that trailers have been released for Dave Grohl's upcoming documentary on Sound City Studios in California.
The teasers feature musicians and producers telling memories of the studio, which has had many classic albums recorded there, including Nirvana's Nevermind, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, Neil Young's After The Gold Rush, Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers' Damn the Torpedoes and Rage Against The Machine's self-titled debut.
The video playlist below features clips from Frank Black of the Pixies, Metallica's Lars Ulrich, producer Rick Rubin and Trent Reznor.
The film, Sound City will focus on the history of the studio with interviews from artists and producers. Grohl came up with the idea last year when he bought the Neve 8028 recording console from the studio when the closed down for commercial use in May.
Grohl said: "Sound City is a film about America's greatest unsung recording studio. Deep in California's sunburnt San Fernando Valley, it was the birthplace of legend. It was witness to history."
Nevermind producer Butch Vig said that he had been back in the studio with Grohl and former Nirvana member Krist Novoselic recording for the film's soundtrack. He said: "We're not really sure how it's all gonna end up at this point but its been fun. There's still quite a bit more work to do and we hope to finish up in the next three or four months, and try get it all mixed and completed some time in the fall."
The film will be distributed through Roswell Films, a part of the Foo Fighters' Roswell Records label. Mark Monroe will write the movie while Paul Crowder will edit.
