Variety reports that Taylor Swift will play Joni Mitchell in Girls Like Us, the adaptation of Shelia Weller's book of the same name from Sony Pictures and Di Bonaventura Pictures.
Several actresses have auditioned for the roles of Carly Simon and Carole King. Those up for Simon include Allison Williams (Girls), Jessica Pare (Mad Men) and Analeigh Tipton (Crazy, Stupid, Love). Those up for King include Alison Pill (The Newsroom), Olivia Thirlby (Dredd 3D), Ari Graynor (For A Good Time, Call) and Zoe Kazan (Ruby Sparks).
The filmmakers want to get the casting right because chemistry is necessary to go forward. The drama focuses on the careers of singers Mitchell, Simon and King and their influence on female musicians. Executive producer Katie Jacobs (House) optioned the book several years ago. She will direct from a script by John Sayles. Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers) will produce.
