Frontman discusses winning Best New Artist back in the day...
Adam Levine and Maroon 5 recently spoke with Carson Daly onstage at the Red Bull Sound Space at AMP Radio. Maroon 5 performed in front of a group of 300 people to give fans a look at what they could expect during the group's upcoming tour to support Overexposed. Levine spoke with Daly about about the band's success, his acting debut on American Horror Story: Asylum and more.
When asked about winning the Best New Artist Grammy in 2005 when they beat out Kanye West, Levine said, "What was really crazy about that year is that we were nominated for two Grammys and the first one we lost before the Best New Artist, and we lost to Los Lonely Boys...great song, but I was pissed off...and then we were nominated against some amazing artists and one of them was Kanye West. And so I'm thinking, like, 'God Bless Lonely Boys, but you know, Kanye's got this,' and we didn't think that we were going to win it.
"But then we won," he continues. "And I think we were all just so shocked, first of all that we won a Grammy. Second of all that it was in the category it was in and third of all that we beat Kanye 'cause I know, as pissed off as he probably was...but yeah, it was a trip."
