Ukrainian Singer Suing Carly Rae Jepsen Over Stealing A Song
Posted by Joseph Lee on 11.08.2012

TMZ reports that Ukrainian singer Aza is suing Carly Rae Jepsen because she claims Jepsen stole her Christmas song "Hunky Santa" and turned it into "Call Me Maybe.

Her lawyer, Barry Rothman, filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles and claims that producers simply tweaked her song and added Jepsen's voice in. She's suing for unspecified damages, but considering the success of the song it's probably a lot of money.

Aza said: "I'm shocked and surprised that these people wanted to sample my lyrics on their song. They didn't ask me for permission, they just took it. That's why I filed this lawsuit. When I first heard it on the radio, I was driving and almost got into an accident. I couldn't believe what I was hearing."

Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun is also named in the lawsuit.

Jepsen's representative replied: "This is completely false and [Carly's] lawyers will deal with this. Everyone knows [Carly] is a songwriter. She is not spending a lot of time listening to Ukrainian radio."

Here's both songs so you can see how similar they are:
