PSY Says He Tried Other Animals For "Gangnam Style" Before The Horse Dance
Posted by Joseph Lee on 11.08.2012

NME reports that PSY has joined an elite group of people to speak at Oxford University on a list that includes Mother Teresa, Yoko Ono and Michael Jackson. His song "Gangnam Style" is worldwide hit with over 650 million plays on Youtube so far.

He revealed that he invented the horse-style gallop dance after he was offered a spot dancing on a TV show. He said: "I was so desperate to get noticed I went to a TV production company in Korea and started doing a dance – a crazy dance – up and down the corridors."

The stunt worked and he was given the spot on the show.

He also said that the horse wasn't his first choice. He added: "I stayed up for 30 nights to find that horse-riding dance. I tried every creature: elephant, monkey, kangaroo, snake. The kangaroo hopping was too slow, so we ended up imitating a horse."

He originally trained at the Berklee College of Music on Boston before going into pop music. The crowd at the event was sold out and demand was so great that tickets had to be assigned to students through a ballot, as students lined up outside. Several students mentioned that this has never happened in the society's 189-year history.

When Scooter Braun, Justin Bieber's manager, discovered PSY, he called him immediately. PSY said: "I couldn't believe it was him."

He also explained that he speaks very good English but wanted to keep the Korean lyrics in the song. He added: "I communicate more effectively in Korean. When I speak English, I sound so serious, I wanted to show the real me."

Finally, he said his next single will be a mix of English and Korean "so maybe you will understand the lyrics more".

The event finished with Oxford Union committee members, some dressed up in white tie for the event, dancing with PSY to "Gangnam Style".
