INXS Breaking Up After 35 Years
Posted by Joseph Lee on 11.12.2012

Billboard reports that INXS are breaking up after 35 years as a band. They have yet to release an official statement, but rumors in Australia seem to indicate that they will no longer be together.

During a performance on Sunday at the new Perth Arena, drummer John Farriss was rumored to have said they would split up, and added that he was "getting teary."

During their peak in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the band were very popular and were ranked among the "biggest bands on the planet." After their singer of 20 years, Michael Hutchence, died in 1997, the band would never get the heights it previously enjoyed.

Manager Chris Murphy, who returned to the band in the past five years, is said to be preparing a statement which will explain everything. It will be revealed on Tuesday.

This news comes after plans to re-release the band's catalog. This is the 25th anniversary of Kick, their biggest album, and they planned on released a box set called The Kick 25th Anniversary Edition. The set features outtakes and additional songs from the sessions as well as a DVD with documentary and live footage.

Keyboardist Andrew Farriss said the band has new songs in the works and added: "I've got maybe four, five new tracks I'm happy with, and there's a lot of other material. Because we're out touring, it's a little bit frustrating because I want to stop and concentrate on that (new) work. But you've got to be patient and make sure it's right. But this particularly lineup of INXS is really -- we're on a winner, I think, with this one. It's looking really, really positive."
