NME reports that rare footage of Elvis Presley at a press conference has appeared online.
The event took place the day before the first of four concerts at Madison Square Garden in New York in 1972. It is one of the last press conferences he ever did. When asked if he wanted to perform abroad, he mentioned wanting to visit the UK.
He said: "I've never been to Britain, I'd like to, very much, I've never been out of this country except in the service."
The footage will be a part of the release of Elvis Presley: Prince From Another Planet, which is available now. The footage was added to a brand new anniversary edition of the Madison Square Garden show. There will be two CDs (which feature the Saturday performance of his New York residency) and a bonus DVD with hand-held footage of the show, as well as a documentary.
The 1972 concert was the first time he performed in New York, even after fifteen years of performing. This was also his last concert in New York. The press conference took place on the Friday before the weekend. Those in attendance included Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis' father, Vernon Presley, who sat beside his son.
