Billboard reports that Dave Matthews Band will raise $1 million for Hurricane Sandy victims with their tour opener in New Jersey.
All proceeds from their November 30 show at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford will go to the Bama Works Sandy Relief Fund, including ticket sales and merchandise. The band confirmed this on their official website.
Also on the lineup is Jamaican reggae artist Jimmy Cliff. He wrote on Twitter this month that the media had ignored the effects of Sandy on Haiti. According to the AFP, an estimated 54 people died due to the storm and thousands are homeless.
Other acts to raise relief funds for hurricane victims include The Script, Rihanna, Jack Johnson and Justin Bieber, who pledged $1 for each ticket sold at his four New York City-area concerts. Lady Gaga wrote on her blog that she would pledge $1 million to help New York City. She said: "Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours."
NBC raised $23 million for the American Red Cross on their November 2 telethon Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together, which included stars like Bruce Springsteen, Sting and Billy Joel.
