Perry Farrell says it will be their greatest achievement...
Billboard reports that a Jane's Addiction album will be released sometime next year. Perry Farrell believes the album is the band's "greatest achievement" ever.
He said: "The next album is going to be something that the world has never experienced. I'm building it simultaneously with the live show in mind and it's just going to be out of sight!"
After the band's tour to support 2011's The Great Escape Artist, Farrell was able to work on new material. He added: "I've been kind of injured. I had a knee operation when I got off the road but the good news is that it gave me time to sit and write. I haven't written like this since I was in my 20's. I was kind of forced to write and I'm just having such a great time and it's coming out so well. When you take that much time to write and think about music and the show, good things are going to happen."
He said he's come up with close to sixty songs, but he knows they're "not going to be able to use them all."
When the idea of a double disc album was brought up, Farrell said he doesn't think this generation of fans have the attention span for that. He also said it will be more thematic than past albums. He said: "I look at it like, if you were going out for an evening, how you'd like to be entertained. An evening's worth of music would be 2½ hours but in that 2½ hours, the music is going to be so different. The sound is going to move around the building so you can conceivably have 2½ hours worth of music and it isn't all pop songs/one hit after the other. You have to fill the evening and at the end of the evening, people are going to spill into the grand ballroom and then it will look more like a rock show from there."
Finally, he said that he is working on the songs to go with his plans for a live show. He continued: "It's going to be theatrical and we're going to take it to another level. I want to really give you a new experience. I want you to feel like you've never seen it or experienced anything like it."
