Solange Knowles And Devonte Hynes Host Listening Party
Posted by Joseph Lee on 11.28.2012

NME reports that Solange Knowles and Devonte Hynes hosted a listening party for Knowles' new EP, True, last night in Los Angeles.

It went down at Sonos Studios in Hollywood, where The xx are working on an art exhibition called "Missing", inspired by their new album Coexist. The set-up features 50 robotic music players which follow the movement of visitors.

Knowles and Hynes (of Blood Orange/Lightspeed Champion), who produced and co-wrote her seven-song EP, took over to play it for the crowd which included Kelly Rowland and Cerebal Ballzy's Honor Titus.

After the listening party, they had a Q&A session in which they talked about how it happened. They met through Theophilus London, a mutual friend.

Knowles said: "He said there [he had] a song that I have to hear and have to be a part of." She said that the songs were "really strong amazing pop songs… with layers and nuances."

Hynes added: "If I have a slight bit of hesitation with regards to showing it to family and friends, I get rid of it."

The EP was released through the label Terrible Records (run by Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor). When asked about going from the major label Interscope to an independent label, Knowles said: "This has just been such an enjoyable process… The goal here was getting the music out and making it the most easiest and enjoyable experience… In terms of releasing the music it has been a tremendous contrast."

She said that Hynes (who used to play with Test Icicles) "has become such an amazing friend to me". She concluded that this will not be the only time they work together. She will release her third studio album next year.
