Alicia Keys and Rod Stewart Could Get #1 On The Billboard 200 Next Week
Posted by Joseph Lee on 11.29.2012

Billboard reports that Alicia Keys' Girl on Fire may have the largest debut on the Billboard 200 next week and could even get #1. However it faces competition from Rod Stewart's Merry Christmas, Baby, which had huge sales numbers after Thanksgiving.

Keys' album, which arrived on November 27, may sell between 145,000 and 170,000 by the end of the week. IT was the only new release that will sell a number that large. Stewart's first Christmas album, which sold 117,000 last week, is likely to get higher due to the holiday season.

Christmas album sales increase in the weeks after Thanksgiving. In 2011 after the holiday, Michael Buble's Christmas had another week at #1 with 293,000.

If Keys does get #1, it will be her fifth. Her first four albums (three studio albums and a live set) all got to the top between 2001 and 2007. Her last album, 2009's The Element of Freedom, debuted at #2 with 417,000. It was released on December 15 and stuck behind Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream, which was at #1 for the fourth week with 661,000.
