She's happy...
Billboard spoke with Katy Perry about being named Billboard's Woman of the Year, and she seem surprised.
She said: "I thought my year was over! It does feel like this record has never ended."
She's referring to 2010's Teenage Dream, which had several hit singles, an expanded re-release, the California Dreams world tour and her 3D movie Katy Perry: Part of Me. She hit #2 on the Hot 100 with "Wide Awake", which is her most recent single, which she debuted at the Billboard Music Awards in May. The album also had a record five Hot 100 #1 songs, which has not been done by a female artist before.
Perry said: "I like to be viewed as a strong woman and I think that's what Billboard is basically saying."
Perry has credited several female artists including Ella Fitzgerald and Alanis Morissette. She added: "'Jagged Little Pill' by Alanis Morissette, every single song struck a chord, an emotional chord inside of me."
Finally, she commented on what fans can expect next. She said: "I'm excited for the next evolution -- it will be an evolution."
She will get the award at the 2012 Billboard Women in Music event in New York City on Friday, Nov. 30.
