Paul McCartney To Appear in UK Comic Strip The Dandy Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.01.2012
Before its last print installment...
Contact Music reports that Paul McCartney will appear in his favorite comic strip fifty years after he said it was a lifetime dream to do so.
He has been a fan of the British children's comic The Dandy all of his life. In a 1963 interview with NME, he said that his "personal ambition" was to "have my picture in The Dandy".
Those in charge of the strip announced that the December 2012 edition would be the last ever print installment before it goes online. After hearing about this, McCartney wrote them a note.
He wrote: "The Dandy was a favorite comic of mine when growing up in Liverpool and each week I would look forward to the exploits of Desperate Dan and his other comic book colleagues. I feel a little sadness that I see its final issue is appearing in December. In 1963, in the Nme, when asked what my personal ambition was, I replied - to have my picture in The Dandy! I hope it's not too late!"
The editors agreed and McCartney will appear along with his favorite character Desperate Dan.
Print editor Craig Graham said: "When the decision was taken to stop printing The Dandy and take it online earlier this year, it really was a case of now or never. Sir Paul wrote a lovely letter to us, wishing The Dandy well and hoping it wasn't too late to make an appearance. How could we refuse?"
