Holiday Albums Set To Enter Billboard 200 Top Ten Next Week

From Rod Stewart, Lady Antebellum and Rod Stewart...
Billboard reports that three holiday albums are set to rank much higher in the top ten of the Billboard 200, with Rod Stewart's Merry Christmas, Baby taking #3 and releases from Lady Antebellum (On this Winter's Night) and Blake Shelton (Cheers, It's Christmas) getting in the bottom half.
Alicia Keys' Girl on Fire is expected to get #1 next week, or at least have a high debut as it will sell between 145,000 and 170,000 copies. Keys' album is the only major new release that will get a number that large. The biggest competition is Stewart's album, which sold 117,000 last week, and Taylor Swift's Red, which sold 185,000 last week.
In past years, Christmas album sales grow larger after Thanksgiving, which explains the increased sales of the three previously mentioned albums. On November 9, Lady Antebellum debuted at #9 but then fell to between 11-19 on the chart. With the single "A Holly Jolly Christmas", which climbed 26-5 on Adult Contemporary this week, the set is likely to return to the top ten.
Blake Shelton's album Cheers, It's Christmas would have its first week in the top ten if it can get there, as it's only ranked as high as #14 in its first eight weeks. The set's single "Jingle Bell Rock", with Shelton's wife Miranda Lambert, debuted at #57 on the Country Airplay chart.
The only other debut next week goes to Timeflies with the EP One Night. The two hit #4 on the Heatseekers Albums a year ago with The Scotch Tape.
Here's the Building Chart for next week. Last week's ranking is in parenthesis.
1. Alicia Keys - Girl On Fire (NEW)
2. Taylor Swift - Red (#2)
3. Rod Stewart - Merry Christmas, Baby (#6)
4. Phillip Phillips - The World From the Side of the Moon (#4)
5. Rihanna - Unapologetic (#1)
6. One Direction - Take Me Home (#3)
7. Lady Antebellum - On This Winter's Night (#19)
8. Blake Shelton - Cheers, It's Christmas (#18)
9. Timeflies - One Night EP (NEW)
10. Kid Rock - Rebel Soul (#5)
It should be noted that the Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.
