He says the director won't hand it over...
Former Fugees member Pras Michel has filed a lawsuit against the director of a documentary about him. TMZ reports that Michel hired Marshall Taylor in 2009 in order to direct a documentary about Michel's encounter with Somali pirates off the East African coast; Michel says he was taken captive, though several reports say that the rapper and his film crew were not actually captured and instead saw the capture of the Maersk Alabama.
Whichever the case, Michel says in his lawsuit that he paid $70,000 to Tyler for filming and travel expenses but says that once filming was done, Tyler refused to give him the footage. After several unanswered attempts to get the footage back, he is now suing for the footage or the $70,000 as well as damages. A judge has not yet ruled on the suit.
Tyler's rep told TMZ, "Pras is trying to assert ownership on material that Marshall owns the copyright to."
