X Factor UK Winner James Arthur's Single Goes To #1 On iTunes
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.10.2012

NME reports that James Arthur, the winner of the 2012 season of The X Factor, has had his single "Impossible" go to #1 on iTunes. It is a cover of the song by Shontelle. It has been available since midnight. All proceeds from the single will go to the children's charity Together For Short Lives.

Middlesbrough resident Arthur defeated Jahmene Douglas and Christopher Maloney in the finale to win this year's competition. It ran for four hours on Saturday and Sunday night. Arthur has earned a contract with Simon Cowell's SyCo. Maloney was eliminated from the Saturday show and then Arthur defeated Douglas on the Sunday live finale.

Several big name musicians performed on the two live shows at Manchester Arena, including Rihanna, One Direction, Kelly Clarkson, Emeli Sande, Kylie Minogue and Rita Ora.

Even with all of this, the audience didn't rise about 11 million, which is the lowest figure on ITV since 2006 for the finale. 17 million viewers tuned in for Matt Cardle's win in 2010.

The Sun reports that Maloney was banned from the Sunday show after he showed up drunk and insulted former contestant Carolynne Poole. He denied the reports that said he was being "bullied".
