Hurricane Sandy Benefit Concert Aiming for 2 Billion Viewers Worldwide

Billboard reports that the commercial-free Hurricane Sandy benefit concert taking place at the Madison Square Garden in New York City will be seen around the world online. The concert's website 121212concert.org estimates 2 billion people worldwide will be watching the event.

The concert will be available on 34 channels in the US including AMC, VH1 Classic, HBO, Showtime 2, and even Bloomberg. Not all networks are carrying the event. Fox is airing a two-hour semi-final for The X-Factor. NBC, CBS, and ABC are carrying on with normal evening schedules for Wednesday. The concert will air on CBS' New York affiliate station WLNY in-TV and the CW station in Philadelphia. Some local PBS stations in New York and New Jersey will also show the broadcast.

The live webcast of the event is available on 30 different websites including: YouTube, MTV.com, MySpace, Yahoo, Yahoo, Vevo, AOL, Hulu, People.com and BMI.com. The webcast will also be carried at the event's homepage, 121212concert.org.

The broadcast will be available around the world. MTV and VH1 are broadcasting the concert in Canada, Latin America, the U.K., France, Australia and dozens of other countries. Numerous other channels will show the concert as well across Asia.

In terms of social media, Foursquare has started a "Be Robin Hood #121212concert" badge for users who check in using the #121212concert hashtag. Samsung Galaxy proclaimed they will donate $10 to the Robin Hood Relief Fund on behalf of each of the first 25,000 unlocked badges.

Shazam has promised proceeds from music purchased through the music identification app during the concert will be donated to the Robin Hood Foundation Relief Fund as well. Shazam users can also use the app to donate directly to the charity during the broadcast.
