Britney Spears Is The Top Earning Female Musician Of 2012
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.13.2012

Forbes reports that Britney Spears is the top earning female musician of 2010 after earning $58 million. This is slightly less than when she had the achievement in 2010 with $64 million. Her album Femme Fatale was certified platinum. The tour, endorsements and fragrance line with Elizabeth Arden that followed made up the majority of her money, as did her X Factor deal.

#2 went to Taylor Swift, who earned $57 million hits year. She had the bulk of her money from her tour in which she earned $1 million per night. She also had endorsement deals with CoverGirl and Sony. Meanwhile, she's likely to get more money as her latest album Red sold 1.2 million copies in its debut week, the best debut of any artist since 2002.

Rihanna comes in third with $53 million. She's had a long touring schedule, a new album and several hit songs, as well as endorsements with Vita Coco, Nivea and fragrance Reb'l Fleur. She's followed by Lady Gaga at #4. She earned $52 million thanks to album sales, touring and her new Fame perfume. Katy Perry closes the top five with $45 million. Her album Teenage Dream continued to make money, as she became the only musician besides Michael Jackson to have five #1 singles from the same album. Her California Dreams tour earned nearly $60 million.

The list was decided by looking at income (from record sales, touring, endorsements, merchandise and others). They represent earnings from May 2011 to May 2012, subtracting management fees, legal costs and taxes. Of the top female earners, only eight are among the world's 25 highest-paid musicians.

Those who narrowly missed the top ten include Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey.

1. Britney Spears - $58 million
2. Taylor Swift - $57 million
3. Rihanna - $53 million
4. Lady Gaga - $52 million
5. Katy Perry - $45 million
6. Beyonce - $40 million
7. Adele - $35 million
8. Sade - $33 million
9. Madonna - $30 million
10. Shakira - $20 million
