One Direction Have Second One Million Selling Album
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 12.19.2012

Billboard reports that One Direction is now the first music act since 2005 to have two newly released albums sell more than one million in a calendar year.

Their latest album Take Me Home sold another 127,000 units for the week ending December 16. This brings the current total for the album to 1.04 million sales in the US according to Nielsen SoundScan. Their debut album Up All Night released earlier this year sold 1.51 million.

The last artist to move over a million of two new albums in the same calendar year was Kenny Chesney in 2005 with Be As You Are: Songs from an Old Blue Chair and The Road and the Radio which sold 1.08 million and 1.82 million respectively.

The last artist to move more than one million of more than one album in the same year was the late Michael Jackson in 2009 (the year of his passing).
