Paul Simon Plays Music at Funeral of Sandy Hook School Shooting Victim
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 12.20.2012

The NY Daily News released a report that Paul Simon performed at the funeral of Victoria Soto, a vitcim last week in the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

Simon was a family friend of the school teacher who was 27 years old. He played her favorite song, "The Sound of Silence" at the service at Lordship Community Church in Stratford yesterday on December 19. There was said to be a hushed silence when Simon finished the song he recorded in 1966.

Soto was killed by suspected gunman Adam Lanza when shielding children from gunfire. Simon knew the family through his sister-in-law, who is a nurse. Simon did not get an introduction when he sang at the funeral.
During the service, Soto's sister Jillian said to mourners during the service: "Somebody wrote me a letter about the recent tragedy that I would like to share with you: In it, it said they had to sit down with three small children, explaining to them that monsters sadly do exist out there. But they felt relief that because of my sister, they were able to tell them that superheroes also are very real."
