Why is Kanye West's Performance Not on the 12-12-12: Concert for Hurricane Sandy Album?
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 12.20.2012

Billboard reports Kanye West was not on the 12-12-12 Concert for Hurricane Sandy album.

Representatives for West, his label, and Clear Channel's John Sykes (who co-produced the concert with Madison Square Garden CEO James Dolan and Weinstein Company co-chairman Harvey Weinstein) have either not commented on the situation or declined comment. A representative for Columbia, which is distributing the album, said that the label was unable to comment on the track listing.

A Billboard source says the decision was due to West's camp, but the source did not clarify if the reason was for personal, legal or other reasons. Two other sources suggested that due to West's perfectionism with his music, he possibly wasn't happy with his performance.

It is also possible that West's performance which was a 13-song medley with multiple samples had legal challenges which could not be resolved in time for the digital release date of the album. A publishing source said this was not the case due to the scale of the project. 12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief was released on Tuesday and is projected to sell 125,000 to 150,000 units in its first week. The 2-CD set is set for release next month.
