Thin Lizzy Members To Reunite As A New Band
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.21.2012

Thin Lizzy have announced on Facebook that they will no longer record material as Thin Lizzy. Instead, the current lineup will form a new band called Black Star Riders.

This includes Ricky Warwick (vocals), Scott Gorham (guitar), Damon Johnson (guitar), Marco Mendoza (bass) with newcomer Jimmy DeGrasso on drums (Alice Cooper, Megadeth, David Lee Roth, Suicidal Tendencies). DeGrasso replaces Brian Downey, who didn't want to commit to touring cycle for a new album. Darren Wharton wanted to focus on Dare and his other music and film projects.

The band will record their new album in Los Angeles on January 2013 with producer Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Rush). The album will have material written while they toured as Thin Lizzy.

Warwick said: "We are all very excited about the music that we have created for Black Star Riders. The synergy between the five of us has been phenomenal and I can't wait for the world to hear these songs."

The album will be released in May 2013 through Nuclear Blast (Anthrax, Nightwish, Meshuggah). The act is one of the first bands signed by Monte Conner, the former head of Roadrunner A&R who signed acts like Slipknot, Machine Head, Sepultura and Rush. Conner is now the president of Nuclear Blast Entertainment, a a new partnership with Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger.

Conner said: "As a lifelong Thin Lizzy fan, I was floored by this line-up's new material. Not only do the new songs sound like Thin Lizzy but they sound like CLASSIC Thin Lizzy. Black Star Riders totally captures the essence of what was great about the original band while at the same time adding something totally fresh and modern. Even when I heard the band decided to change their name, my interest in signing them did not waver for one second."

The band will support their album with European festival shows in the summer of 2013, then with a worldwide tour. The set list will have new material and classic Thin Lizzy songs.
