Taylor Swift Likely For Sixth Week At #1 On Billboard 200
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.22.2012

Billboard reports that Taylor Swift's Red could be headed toward a sixth non-consecutive week at #1 on the Billboard 200. The album is predicted to sell between 260,000 and 290,000.

Only two new albums will likely appear in in the top ten. These include T.I.'s Trouble Man: Heavy is the Head (155,000 to 175,000) and the 12-12-12 The Concert for Sandy Relief 24-song benefit album (100,000 to 130,000). The number for the 12-12-12 album was actually down some from earlier predictions on Wednesday, where it was tracking at 150,000. It will be helped by around 60,000 in pre-orders in the iTunes store, which may not all become sales.

Next week's chart will be revealed on Thursday instead of Wednesday due to the Christmas holiday.

The only album not on the Building Chart is Michael Buble's 2011 album Christmas, because the chart doesn't include albums released eighteen months ago or in the last holiday season for Christmas albums. Since the Billboard 200 does include older albums, expect to see Christmas in the top ten, selling around 135,000 to 150,000. The Building chart actually shows T.I.'s album as above Swift's, but Red is still set to take #1.

Here's the top ten predicted albums, with last week's rank in parenthesis.

1. Taylor Swift - Red (#1)
2. T.I. - Trouble Man: Heavy is the Head (NEW)
3. Bruno Mars - Unorthodox Jukebox (#2)
4. Various Artists - 12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief (NEW)
5. One Direction - Take Me Home (#3)
6. Rod Stewart - Merry Christmas, Baby (#4)
7. Phillip Phillips - The World From The Side of the Moon (#6)
8. Blink 182 - Dogs Eating Dogs (NEW)
9. Various Artists - Now 44 (#11)
10. Lady Antebellum - On This Winter's Night (#9)

It should be noted that the Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.
