According to billboard.com, there was a huge surge in airplay for R.E.M.'s ‘It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)' yesterday. The song logged 135 plays in the U.S. yesterday among the more than 1,200 stations monitored by Nielsen BDS for the Hot 100. That was up from 50 on Thursday and just 18 on Wednesday. When the latest Nielsen SoundScan figures are released next week, the song's impact sale wise will be revealed. Alternative KENZ Salt Lake City played the song eight times yesterday, which wasn't a surprise to many, as KENZ uses the moniker "101.9 The End."
