Charity Single Featuring Paul McCartney Gets #1 In The UK
Posted by Joseph Lee on 12.24.2012

NME reports that The Justice Collective's Hillsborough charity song defeated UK X Factor winner James Arthur to get the #1 single in the UK for Christmas this year.

The song was a cover of The Hollies' "He Aint Heavy, He's My Brother". It sold 269,000 copies according to the Official Chart Company.

The Justice Collective features a lineup that includes Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, Paloma Faith, Melanie C, Holly Johnson, Shane MacGowan, The Farm's Peter Hooton, and Gerry And The Pacemakers' Gerry Marsden. The group defeated James Arthur by 45,000 copies.

Arthur started the week at #1 on the charts, and even though he sold 224,000 copies for his debut single "Impossible", spending its second week on the chart, he still had to settle for #2.

The rest of the top five includes Will.I.Am and Britney Spears' "Scream & Shout", Rihanna's "Stay" and Bruno Mars' "Locked Out Of Heaven".

The only Christmas song released was Muhammad Shahid Nazir, also known as One Pound Fish Man. His song "One Pound Fish" entered the top 40 at #29.

Over on the UK album chart, Emeli Sande has went back to the top spot with her album Our Version of Events thanks to a performance at last weekend's BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.

She is followed by Olly Murs' Right Place Right Time, Michael Buble's Christmas, Bruno Mars' Unorthodox Jukebox and Neil Diamond's The Very Best Of....
