Azealia steps to her own defense...
UPDATE: Azealia Banks has come to her own defense for using a gay slur against Perez Hilton. As previously reported, Banks called Hilton a "messy faggot" and "dickbreath" after Hilton took the side of Angel Haze in her feud against Banks, which caused GLAAD to condemn her comments. Several others have come to Hilton's defense, including Billboard Editorial Director Bill Werde criticizing her and noting:
Let me be clear: 1. I've been a big fan of @AZEALIABANKS music 2. If you think @PerezHilton is mean, than call him that, not "faggot"
And 3. It's some honest advice. The past months, literally every time Azealia Banks hits my radar, it's some kind of beef and not music.
Now, Banks has taken to Twitter to comment, saying:
A faggot is not a homosexual male. A faggot is any male who acts like a female. There's a BIG difference.
Really not as moved by this f word thing as u all want me to be. As a bisexual person I knew what I meant when I used that word. And I meant what I meant when I used that word.
Hilton replied, saying:
It's not just about me. It's bigger than me. Like, if I called you an ignorant "N" word, that would be offensive to so many!
Gay and bisexual people can sometimes be the most homophobic. "He's such a f*****!" "That queen is so fucking femme! Ewww!"
You think it's funny, but you perpetuating the false myth that it is okay to use the F word is NOT funny. And it's wrong.
ORIGINAL: The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation group or GLAAD has released a statement criticizing Azealia Banks for using a homophobic slur toward gossip blogger Perez Hilton.
Previously, Banks referred to Hilton as a "messy faggot" during an online feud where Hilton took the side of Angel Haze who was at odds with Banks and both rappers released diss tracks. Banks also went on to call Hilton "dickbreath" and told him to "gobble a dick." She later went on to defend her remarks with the following post on Twitter:
"A faggot is not a homosexual male. A faggot is any male who acts like a female. There's a BIG difference."
GLAAD was not happy by Banks' use of the word and stated the word is "almost universally used by bullies, often used as part of a larger verbal or physical assault". Their statement goes on to say: "Banks' claim that the word "faggot" doesn't mean a gay male is not true. Regardless of her intent or her personal definition, what matters is the meaning given to that word by those who hear it, and the damage it causes when they do. Undoubtedly there are gay kids who follow her on Twitter who hear this word in an entirely different context. This word is used almost universally by bullies, often as part of a larger verbal or physical assault. This word hurts those kids, no matter what Banks meant by it."
