Kid Cudi Slams Label Again
Posted by Joseph Lee on 01.08.2013

Billboard reports that Kid Cudi has once again slammed Republic on Twitter, nearly a year after he did for shipping what he thought was a low number of physical copies of his psych-rock WZRD (it was called Universal Republic then).

He complained that "Just What I Am" and "King Wizard", two songs from his upcoming album Indicud, haven't been on radio much since their releases in August and Nvoember. He added: "King Wizard 3.4 million views on Vevo, Just What I Am has 4.3 million and my shit is not on regular rotation on radio. Hmmm,"

He then compared the two to Def Jam's Trinidad James' song "All Gold Everything". He wrote: "Trinidad James got 4.1 million views on his hit (rightfully so), and I hear that jam EVERYWHERE. Wheres my fuckin spins???"

Both of Cudi's songs hit the Hot 100 at #74 ("Just What I Am", featuring King Chip) and #91 ("King Wizard"). "Just" peaked at #17 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and has sold 155,000 downloads so far. "King Wizard" is up to #28 and has sold 89,000 downloads. Trinidad's "All Gold Everything" has sold 97,000 downloads in a shorter amount of time as it was released on December 20. It peaked at #23 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Cudi continued: "To my label, I swear to all that is fuckin holy in this world, if things dont change soon, theres gonna be some problems. I worked too hard on all this shit. Producing, writing, directing AND executing the shit proper. I did my part, I put in work. Wtf Yall kno I cuts no slack. Not w my music. Every song is my life. A piece of my fuckin tormented soul. It matters to me. I give a fuck."

He previously called them a "weak ass label" for shipping only 55,000 physical copies of WZRD, which he made with producer Dot Da Genius, in its first week. It debuted on the Billboard 200 with 66,000 copies sold. He told Billboard at the time: "The numbers kind of speak for themselves. It lets people know that I'm not out here taking crazy pills. When I get passionate about something, and people hear me kind of outraged, it's not coming from a place of me being irrational, or being difficult to work with. I believe in something I've created."

His biggest radio success is still "Day 'n' Nite", which was released in 2008. It peaked at #3 on the Hot 100 and was on his 2009 album Man on the Moon: The End of Day. While he said he planned to release another WZRD album before Indicud, Indicud will be the next.
