It would be hard to replace him...
TMZ spoke with American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, who said that the show would die without Ryan Seacrest.
When asked if Seacrest was dispensable like the judges, he replied: "Ryan Seacrest drives the entire program. He's not on an earpiece or anything. He's not beholden to anybody. He controls the show. He's really important. It would be very, very difficult to replace Ryan Seacrest."
However, he did think the show was beyond any one person. He added: "I've never believed that Idol as a franchise is beholden to any individual because everybody said it would die the minute Simon Cowell left, and it hasn't."
