Rare Paul McCartney Recording Found
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 01.18.2013

A rare Paul McCartney recording has been found. Rolling Stone reports that McCartney's version of Peter and Gordon's 1964 single "A World Without Love" has surfaced; it was found by Peter Asher who was one half of the original group and the brother of Jane Asher. Jane was McCartney's girlfriend at the time of the recording.

Asher says that the recording came about while McCartney was living in the Asher family home, saying, "He had two tape machines and I had one – we were both into taping. Paul told me about the song and played it for me."

Asher says that nothing became of the song initially. "No one wanted it," he said. "John didn't like it or something." Asher asked if Peter and Gordon, who had signed a record deal, could have it. "Paul said, 'Absolutely,' but I had to nag him to write the bridge. It came several weeks later, just in time for the session."

Asher says he found the DAT tape containing the recording in a storage space in Los Angeles. There are no plans to release it currently.
