Just short of the top spot...
Billboard reports that Kidz Bop 23 is set to debut at #2 on the Billboard 200, just missing the top spot thanks to the debut of A$AP Rocky's Long Live A$AP. Kidz Bop will sell around 65,000 by Sunday.
The album series, sold through Razor & Tie Records, has sold millions of albums with kid-friendly covers of pop songs. It has sold 13.2 million albums so far, including all regular 22 volumes and spin-off albums like Kidz Bop Christmas and Kidz Bop Halloween Party. The latest volume includes covers of Justin Bieber's "As Long As You Love Me," Rihanna's "Diamonds" and fun.'s "Some Nights." The entire franchise has had 34 entries on the Billboard 200 but has not debuted at #1. It has been to #2 four times.
A$AP Rocky's album will sell around 140,000 copies, good enough to debut on top.
Here's the top ten of the Building Chart, with last week's rank in parenthesis.
1. A$AP Rocky - Long Live A$AP (NEW)
2. Kidz Bop 23 (NEW)
3. Pitch Perfect soundtrack (#5)
4. Bruno Mars - Unorthodox Jukebox (#6)
5. Taylor Swift - Red (#4)
6. Les Miserables soundtrack (#3)
7. Phillip Phillips - The World From The Side of the Moon (#14)
8. The Lumineers - The Lumineers (#8)
9. Mumford & Sons - Babel (#11)
10. One Direction - Take Me Home (#10)
It should be noted that the Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.
