Justin Timberlake's new single has set records in its debut on the Billboard Pop Songs chart. Billboard reports that "Suit and Tie," which features Jay-Z, scored the highest first-week play total in the Pop Songs chart's twenty-year history; it lands at #14, which is the highest debut by a male artist.
The song scored 6,045 plays in week from January 14th through the 20th, earning place on all 157 stations that report to the chart. The number tops Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" which debuted with 4,602 plays in February of 2011. The #14 debut tops Jon Secada's "If You Go" in May of 1994 for the highest debut by a male artist; "If You Go" had bowed at #19.
Topping the Pop Songs chart was Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble," which rose two spots to #1 and is her second time topping the chart after 2009's "Love Story."
