Marilyn Manson has filed a lawsuit against the woman who claimed that she was engaged to him. Billboard reports that Manson, legal name Brian Warner, filed suit against Yolanda Tharpe, a musician and filmmaker who goes by the professional name Seraphim Ward.
Manson's lawsuit claims that Tharpe publicly announced her engagement to him on her personal website despite the fact that they do not personally know each other. It adds that Tharpe tried to publicize the story by giving TMZ a cease-and-desist letter issued her by Manson's attorneys. Manson threatened to sue if Tharpe didn't retract the story and she complied, but in her retraction accused him of not marrying her because he is pro-Nazi and didn't want to be seen with an African-American woman.
Manson is suing for $50,000 over five causes of action for defamation, misappropriation of common law right of publicity, unlawful use of Manson's name for commercial advantage and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
