Unsigned Singer Ebony Day Wins MTV Brand New Talent Contest

NME reports that unsigned artist Ebony Day has won MTV's Brand New 2013.
She is a 19-year-old from Bournemouth. She started writing songs when she was diagnosed with severe allergies four years ago and forced to miss school. She began uploading the videos to Youtube and now has 19 million plays.
She is the first unsigned artist to win and follows previous winners Adele, Jessie J, Florence And The Machine, Justin Bieber, Little Boots and Conor Maynard, who won last year.
She said: "I'm so overwhelmed that my fans have made this win possible for me. It's all down to their ongoing support and hard work that I have won MTV's Brand New of 2013 and I can't thank them enough. This is a dream come true for me, I've never been happier."
She defeated fellow nominees Tom Odell, Haim, K Koke, Disclosure, Rascals, Little Nikki, Angel Haze, Kodaline and Gabrilelle Aplin.
