The Flaming Lips May Cover The Stone Roses' Debut Album
Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.06.2013

The Future Heart reports that The Flaming Lips have hinted that they will remake The Stone Roses' 1989 debut album.

This is part of Wayne Coyne's plans to remake entire classic albums by working with other bands. In 2010, the band released a track-by-track cover of Pink Floyd's 1973 album Dark Side of the Moon. Coyne was part of a remake of King Crimson's debut album, In The Court of the Crimson King, called Playing Hide and Seek with the Ghosts of Dawn.

Coyne wrote on Twitter that he was recording a version of "She Bangs The Drums" and trying to get Polica singer Channy Leaneagh to appear. He wrote: "Doin vocals for She bangs The Drum hopin to get Channy of Polica to sing on it too!!!!"

Daniel Huffman of the band New Flumes (who teamed up with the Lips on "Girl, You're So Weird" as well as the King Crimson cover album) tweeted: "Ashley from DEF RAIN came by the dome to sing on "Bye Bye Badman"!!! Stone Roses cover."

Finally, Matt Duckwork of Stardeath and White Dwarfs (the band fronted by Coyne's nephew Dennis Coyne, who was on the Pink Floyd remake), said he was adding vocals on a cover of "Hour of the Time Majesty". He previously collaborated with the Flaming Lips on the 2012 album The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends.

He wrote: "Putting some congas on this wicked @hott_mt cover of Waterfall, by The Stone Roses!!! @ Pink Floor Studio"

It's unknown if the album is going ahead or when it will be released.

The Flaming Lips will release their next album, The Terror on April 1 via Bella Union (in the UK). It was produced by Dave Fridmann and the band at Tarbox Road Studios in New York. It's described as "nine original compositions that reflect a darker-hued spectrum than previous works along with a more inward-looking lyrical perspective than one might expect but then again, maybe not".
