David Bowie Bans Morrissey From Using His Image on Cover of New Single

David Bowie has refused to allow Morrissey to use an image of him for the cover art on a re-release of his single "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys." The 1989 single is being re-released alongside the 1991 album Kill Uncle this spring, and Morrissey reportedly wanted to use a picture of himself and Bowie together on the cover. However, as Morrissey fansite True to You reports, Bowie nixed the plan and ordered EMI UK not to use the artwork.
As the report notes, Bowie has no legal rights to the picture but most of his back catalogue is licensed to EMI, which gives him some pull. The image was a private photo taking by Linder Sterline in New York in 1992.
