Lil Wayne Upsets Family Of Emmett Till With Remix
Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.14.2013

Billboard reports that a vulgar lyric from Lil Wayne has offended the family of Emmett Till and now Epic Records is going to "great efforts" to remove a new remix of Future's "Karate Chop".

Wayne made a sexual reference to the beating death of Till, a 14-year-old Chicago boy who was tortured and shot in Mississippi in 1955 for whistling at a white woman. His family became upset and Reverend Jesse Jackson reached out to his management, The Blueprint Group, on the family's behalf.

The label released the following statement: "We regret the unauthorized remix version of Future's 'Karate Chop,' which was leaked online and contained hurtful lyrics. Out of respect for the legacy of Emmett Till and his family and the support of the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. ... we are going through great efforts to take down the unauthorized version."

They also said that the official version will "not include such references."

Wayne only appears briefly in the song, and the lyrics is apparently too vulgar for Billboard to reveal. The actual lyric has Wayne saying he will "Beat that p***y up like Emmett Till."

Till is a Chicago resident that was in Mississippi visiting family in 1955 when he was killed. He was beaten, had his eyes gouged out and was shot in the head before he had a cotton gin fan tied to his body with barbed wire and tossed his body in the Tallahatchie River. Two white men, including the woman's husband, were acquitted of the killing by an all-white jury. The body was recovered and sent to Chicago where his mother, Mamie, insisted on an open casket at his funeral. It helped push civil rights in the US. Bob Dylan wrote a song about it called "The Death of Emmett Till."

A Facebook post on the Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation page Wednesday night said Epic Records Chairman and CEO LA Reid had reached out to the family to personally apologize.
