[VIDEO] Mindy McCready Appeared Upbeat Before Killing Herself
Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.19.2013

Radar Online reports that Mindy McCready seemed "upbeat" and worked on a suicide prevention video just a day before she committed suicide.

Danno Hanks said she had been urging him to complete the music video for her song "I'll See You Yesterday" (which you can watch below). She recorded the song last year with her producer and boyfriend David Wilson, who also died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. McCready wanted the video released as a tribute to her boyfriend and to warn others about the signs of someone who is considering suicide. The song was given to McCready by songwriter Courtney Dashe.

Hanks said: "About six months ago she started talking to me about this song she wanted to do. She fell in love with it, and she wanted to make that the title song on her album. Mindy had seen some of the pictures that I posted on my Facebook page and was interested in using them to create the album cover. Then suddenly in the last four or five days she started talking to me every day, and she urgently wanted to get this one song released, but to use it as an anti-suicide public service announcement. She sent me these still photos of her and David. I put the thing together and they were timed to be in sync with the music. At the end there was a message telling people who are contemplating suicide to get in touch with suicideispreventable.org."

Hanks finished the video on Friday and posted it on Youtube. He sent her a private link and said she sent him an email which said: "Beautiful. It made me cry."

On Saturday, they spoke on the phone. Hanks said that when he asked her when she wanted him to release the video to the public, she replied: "You'll know when." She was found dead the next day in Arkansas, at the same spot her boyfriend killed himself weeks before. Hanks thinks she was planning it all along and pretended to be upbeat to remove suspicion.

He added: "She acted upbeat like: ‘OK, you're right. I need to go on. I need to do this for my children and in memory of David. I realize now she was just trying to put me off."

He has denied rumors that she was involved with Wilson's death or that her involvement with Celebrity Rehab led to her death. She is the fifth contestant from the series to die in the past two years. He said that both Wilson and McCready had bipolar disorder and a history of suicide attempts.

He said: "This was almost inevitable. You have two people who have mental illness living together. A certain chain of events happened that just lead her down this path."
