Quincy Jones And Youtube Star Create New Music Education App
Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.19.2013

Billboard reports that Quincy Jones claims he has created the music version of Rosetta Stone. The music education application is called "Playground Sessions" and teaches users how to play the piano. He said it will help children and adults learn how to read music and understand piano playing.

Jones said there is "such a need for this. He added: "The concept is brand-new. I have been praying for this for a long time. It has a learning concept similar to Rosetta Stone. I'm blown away by this."

The app will have real-time feedback and video tutorials from pianist David Sides. It features 70 popular songs by Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry ("Firework"), Frank Sinatra ("New York, New York") and others.

Jones produced Michael Jackson's Thriller and other albums. He said he hopes the app will have an impact on music education program in schools around the world. One of the first schools to use it will be Jones' former school, Garfield High School in Seattle.

About music education in the US, Jones said: "Our kids in this country know less than any other country. We need something like Playground Sessions to push us forward."

Chris Vance, who co-created the app and founded Playground Sessions. He started working with Jones over a year ago after working alone for three years. Vance said Sides was an easy pick when looking for a pianist. Jones said Sides was a talented piano player with an engaging personality. Sides is known for his popular piano covers on Youtube, including his cover of OneRepublic's "Apologize". That video has over 10 million views.

He added: "I wish I had someone like him teaching me how to play the piano."
