Billboard and Nielsen Announce YouTube Streaming Added to Their Rankings Platform

YouTube streaming will now be calculated for the Hot 100...
Billboard reports that they along with Nielsen have announced today that they have added YouTube video streaming data to their platforms in the US. This will update the methodology for the Billboard Hot 100, the preeminent singles music chart.
This means that Nielsen will now factor in YouTube streaming data into their chart ranking. This will be figured into the formula that includes Nielsen's digital download tracking sales and physical singles sales. This also includes terrestrial radio airplay, on-demand audio streaming, and online radio streaming, all of which are tracked by Nielsen.
Billboard will now incorporate all official videos on YouTube which will be captured by Nielsen's streaming measurements including Vevo on YouTube, as well as clips from users that have authorized audio.
One titled that was included by YouTube on the rankings was the new viral sensation "Harlem Shake" by producer Baauer. The song debuted at number one on the Hot 100 and Streaming Songs charts. It's hit 103 million views on YouTube thus far.
The updated Hot 100, Hot 100-based genre charts and Streaming Songs chart will be released on Billboard.com starting Thursday, February 21.
