Beck Launches Sheet Music Album Exhibition In LA
Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.22.2013

NME reports that Beck launched his Song Reader exhibition last night in Los Angeles at Sonos Studio in West Hollywood. It is part of his latest album release, a "Song Reader" book of sheet music and a website where fans can upload their own versions of the songs. It features the original, specially-commissioned artwork for the release as well as Beck's own vintage 1920s to 1940s sheet music. There is also a recording studio where visitors can make their own versions of the songs. The project was thought up in 2004.

Beck also participated in a Q&A session. The event was attended by John C Reilly, Tenacious D's Kyle Gass, model Agyness Deyn and her husband Giovanni Ribisi.

He said: "I had no expectations, I thought at least it would be a beautiful book to look at."

He added that those who don't read sheet music can still be a part of it. He added: "They can put a personal ad in the paper for people who read music."

He also said that he didn't plan on recording the songs himself, and fantasy artists to perform the music include Hank Williams, George Gershwin and Cole Porter.

Several artists did perform songs from the Song Reader, including Adam Green and Binki Shapiro, Amy Reagan, The End of America and Nick and Tim. Beck has yet to play any of the songs live. The exhibition runs from February 21 to March 24.
