Lil Wayne's Record Label Being Sued by Member of The Persuaders
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 02.23.2013

TMZ reports that the label for Lil Wayne and Birdman, Cash Money Records, is being sued by Robert Poindexter of the 70's band The Persuaders.

Poindexter claims that Cash Money Records sampled his band's song "Love Gonna Pack Up (and Walk Out)" and that they illegally lifted the tune in Bow Wow's 2010 track "Still Ballin."

"Love Gonna Pack Up (and Walk Out)" was recorded in 1972 and reached the top of the charts. Poindexter says neither Cash Money Records nor Bow Wow ever got permission to sample the song. Poindexter also said he reached out to Cash Money Records for an answer, and he was then redirected to Bow Wow's attorneys. Those attorneys then reportedly directed him back to Cash Money.

Poindexter is suing for $600,000 in punitive damages, plus interest. Cash Money Records has not yet responded to the lawsuit. Poindexter has also previously filed lawsuits against 50 Cent and Kanye West over similar disputes.
