Adele And Carly Rae Jepsen On Top Of 2012 Global Charts

Billboard reports that according to IFPI's Digital Music Report, Adele's 21 and Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" have topped the global charts for 2012.

21 is the first album to be on top two years in a row since the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) began reporting global best sellers in 2001. It sold 8.3 million copies in 2012 and 18.1 million in 2011. In second place is Taylor Swift's Red (5.2 million), followed by One Direction's Up all Night (4.5 million) and Take Me Home (4.4 million).

"Call Me Maybe" topped the worldwide singles chart with 12.5 million worldwide. It was followed by Gotye (ft. Kimbra)'s "Somebody That I Used To Know" (11.8 million) and PSY's "Gangnam Style" (9.7 million).

IFPI chief executive Frances Moore said: "It's clear that in 2012 the global recording industry has moved onto the road to recovery."

Total digital revenue in 2012 is estimated to be $5.6 billion, up 9% from $5.2 in 2011. Digital makes up 34% of total industry revenue and digital revenue is over 50% of all recorded music income in Norway, Sweden and the U.S.
